I just wanted to share a little bit what has happened in the last few months, that I have been away from writing. I feel bad being away, but have been super busy. With the end of the school year, Every weekend in June I had something going on. First Weekend in June I was on a retreat. The following Wednesday my best buddy from Michigan came and visited me. He left on Sunday and then the next Wednesday, Family friends came to visit and they left on Tuesday. Then on Thursday after they left I left for St. Louis for my SLED program (School Leadership Development) which focus on creating Lutheran School Principals. In all of this I was finishing up my Education Law class, which consist of a policy analysis and a final, besides numerous case briefs and discussion points.
Unlike most teachers, I am actually a 12 month worker at my school. So I am there all summer and all major vacation times. This summer I have a lot of projects to do. I am so far behind since we start school on Aug 19th. I have been writing curriculum or stealing curriculum for our K-5th grade computer program. I have been writing an AUP for technology/computer use. Part of it, we are including about cyber bullying. I am also needed to build some computers and put them into classrooms to update computers or give them new ones. Not a lot of time, did I forget to mention I have my own lesson plans to do and classroom to get ready.
For an early birthday present my wife allowed me to buy IRIScan 2 portable document scanner. Which I am loving. I am scanning all of my worksheets to have available to download, in case a student forgets their at home. I am also using a new way to communicate my homework assignments to my parents online. I am using http://www.standardstoolbox.com/ which has a free section to do lesson plans and even create a teacher website. I embedded this teacher website into our school website. Which also brings me to another project is to continually working on our school website. To make it as user friendly as I can.
Anyways, the reason why I wanted to post something, is to let everyone know the little success I am having in my school when it comes to ed tech. The other day our synod district sent an email that contain the YouTube video "Engage Me"
My principal followed the link and sent me the link through YouTube Share option. This is small I know, but it is a Big step for my principal. She then sent me an email to ask me to be able to bring it up for our Back to School Faculty Meeting. I used KickYouTube and downloaded it for her and sent her the attachment.
The fact that she is looking for 21st Century resources and are sharing it with me and want to share with the rest of the faculty is a WIN! Slowly I will take over my school and get everyone on board! LOL
Love the small victories! One of the great pieces about our job is that our success is defined by the success of other people. It's a great feeling to know that people are actually listening. Great Work.
